San Francisco Chinatown circa 1950
This is the 60th block of Grant Avenue. Our store is two stores up from the Chop Suey sign. It would be too years later that I was born. I lived and grew up in that store all the way till I was seventeen.
Club Shanghai, Chinatown, San Francisco 1946
looks like back in the days of the forbidden city there were more than just one night club. I remember on the corner of Pine and Grant was the Skyroom. I guess this one is just down the block.

Li's Used Shop
The Li family ran a junk shop right on the corner of Jackson and Kearny Street, under the International Hotel. The kid in the box is Kingson Li. That's his mother in the background. Today Kingson is the owner and CEO of What's Up Dog, a chain of hot dog stands. This photo was taken in 1977 right after the eviction when tenants were allowed to return to retreive belongings. I wonder how much stuff the Li family took with them. It was mostly junk.
